Nestled in the heart of Alabama and located just down the road from the scenic Lake Lurleen State Park, our family-run sanctuary and educational turtle & reptile zoo provides lifelong care for more than 150 turtles and tortoises, plus an ever-growing collection of snakes, monitor lizards, iguanas, pigs, peacocks, that serve as educational ambassadors. We maintain large, naturalistic enclosures and ponds so each resident can live comfortably and express natural behaviors for the rest of their lives. Some locals affectionately call us a reptile zoo; our focus, however, is long-term care, and education.
Our sanctuary began quietly, people brought us unwanted turtles and tortoises, and as word spread about our commitment to excellent care, we naturally became a trusted local home for surrendered reptiles. Today we continue that mission as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit: every donation and monthly membership goes directly back into animal care, veterinary services, habitat improvements, and educational programming. Visit our donor/members page to learn how to become a member and support the animals.
We welcome the public with regular open days throughout the warmer months, and offer private group tours, birthday parties, and small field trips tailored for schools, youth groups, and homeschool groups. Through hands-on experiences and engaging talks, our goal is to inspire visitors about the biology, conservation, and proper care of these remarkable animals. While you’re in the area, we encourage you to visit nearby Lake Lurleen State Park as well.
We’re a small family team with a big heart for animals — and we’d love to share our passion with you. Come visit and help us grow the sanctuary and our educational mission.
